The Andbank conference hall in Andorra la Vella was the setting for the official presentation of the 5th La Purito Andorra, a very special year for the event which will set off on Sunday 4 August from the town of Sant Julià de Lòria, finishing at Els Cortals d’Encamp. Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez’s prestigious event shares a weekend in which Andorra will become mostly cycling territory, as Saturday 3 August is also the date of the 3rd La Purito Kids in Encamp and the Bicycle Fair in Sant Julià de Lòria.

Participating in the busy Andbank event were Anna Olsina, Business General Manager at Andbank; Josep Maria Cabanes, Deputy General Manager of Banca País at Andbank; Betim Budzaku, manager of Andorra Turisme, and Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez. Among those attending were notably the sportsmen Aleix Espargaró, Carles Checa, Toni Bou, Xavi Llobet, Josep Antoni Hermida, Oscar Lanza, Oliver Avilés, Celestino Prieto and Emili Pérez.

Josep Maria Cabanes highlighted that “it is a great honour to reach the 5th year of La Purito Andorra; we have been supporting La Purito from the start and the event has more and more followers every year. This hall is full because this event is special, La Purito has put Port de la Gallina on the map for cyclists.”

For his part, Betim Budzaku added that “Purito is a national brand and key to raising awareness of cycling in Andorra. We have some mountains ready and are thankful to Purito for making Andorra a cycling destination. La Purito is one of the most important events in Andorra and all cyclists who visit our country see it as a benchmark.”

An event that improves every year and is an international benchmark, something that would be impossible without the sponsors and volunteers.

Joaquim Rodríguez closed the event by commenting that “La Purito for me is unique, it gives us immense pleasure and I’m thrilled that so many friends and sportspeople support us and have made it to this event. Every year, we have special guests at the cycling event and this year we will be paying tribute to Perico Delgado, the leader of a generation, who we’re very pleased to see at this 5th session.”

To date, La Purito Andorra already has nearly 2,500 registered entries from 16 countries. From Spain, there are entrants from all 17 autonomous communities and 52 provinces. The organisers of La Purito Andorra have decided to increase the number of entries to 2,700.
