Madrid, 4 March 2021.

Andbank España, an entity specialising in private banking, has donated 251,029 euros to the CRIS Foundation against cancer through its SIGMA Global Sustainable Impact (GSI) fund. This fund, which invests in accordance with ESG and impact criteria, allocates 9% of the management fee and 100% of the success fee to this Foundation, which enables the support of research projects for the treatment and cure of cancer.

This is the second consecutive year that Andbank España has raised money through the GSI fund to finance the STAB project of the CRIS Immuno-Oncology Unit of the 12 de Octubre Hospital. It consists of a revolutionary immunotherapy strategy to end cancer more effectively than other cell therapies in certain blood tumours and which could be applied to solid tumours.

According to Dr Luis Álvarez-Vallina, Head of the CRIS Immuno-Oncology Unit of the 12 de Octubre Hospital, “this project is at a key moment as we anticipate that in the last quarter of 2021 we will be able to apply this innovative immunotherapy strategy that we have developed in patients with the support of CRIS Against Cancer and Andbank. It is a spectacular project, and a pioneering one in our country, with great social commitment ”.

The Sigma Global Sustainable Impact (GSI) Fund is a multi-active variable return fund that aims to generate a direct, positive impact (through its investments), as well as a social impact, by allocating part of the management fee to fund cancer research projects. It has about 50 million assets under management and its management philosophy has allowed it to obtain the highest score in the Morningstar Sustainability Rating.

The way in which the ESG criteria are applied in the philosophy of the GSI fund makes a difference in its management. On the one hand, it focuses on the search for the leading companies in their sector in terms of good corporate governance and sustainable practices, following the Best in Class strategy and, on the other hand, on “impact investment”, which invests in companies whose activity generates a positive environmental or social impact.

Cancer research is the main focus of Andbank’s corporate social responsibility strategy. The organisation, in addition to supporting the CRIS Foundation against cancer, works with the Fero Foundation and the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center.
