  • In keeping with Andbank’s commitment to the fight against cancer, it’s promoted the creation of a Charitable Wig Bank thanks to an agreement with the Mechones Solidarios (Charitable Hair Locks) organisation.
  • The bank will initially provide 5 wigs in different styles and increase the number as demand increases.
  • The next occasion will take place on 19 October, World Breast Cancer Day, when a hair donation event will be held under the slogan “Swap your hair for a smile”.
  • Escaldes-Engordany, 28 September 2022

Today, Andbank presented the creation of the new Charitable Wig Bank, promoted in partnership with the Mechones Solidarios organisation. The presentation was attended by Josep M. Cabanes, Deputy General Manager of Institutional Banking, Maria Suárez, Director of Domestic Banking, and Nelly García from the Kerala hairdresser’s and beauty clinic.

Since 2013 the Mechones Solidarios organisation has been producing wigs made from natural hair, made possible by the donations made in different parts of Spain and Andorra.
The Charitable Wig Bank will offer wigs free of charge to people who have lost or are about to lose their hair as a result of chemotherapy treatment. It’s located at the Kerala beauty clinic and hairdressers’ in the centre of Andorra la Vella. Advice will be provided by Nelly García, a professional specialising in oncological hairdressing and aesthetics.

The bank will initially provide 5 wigs in different styles and increase the number as demand increases. García, the person specialising in oncological hairdressing and aesthetics, explained what the training course has involved, providing the option of supporting people in this situation from the very first moment until the conclusion of the process, and outlined what can happen to their skin from the beginning to the end of the chemotherapy.

According to Cabanes, “Andbank is an institution committed to the fight against cancer and for a number of years our track record has featured several initiatives and projects designed to contribute to the fight against cancer in different aspects”.
As for Suárez, she remarked that “I’m very much aware of this issue and it’s a pleasure for me to be able to help all the women who are going through this situation and who, now more than ever, need everyone’s support”.
With regard to the treatment of the wigs, García commented that “they’re made of 100% natural hair, but they have to be washed and treated with several products to ensure that the skin isn’t harmed”.

At the same time, charitable events will be organised to raise funds to help this initiative to expand. The next event is scheduled for 19 October, World Breast Cancer Day, when a hair donation event will be held under the slogan “Swap your hair for a smile”. The donations will be sent to Mechones Solidarios to produce oncological wigs.
The event will be held at the Wig Bank at the Kerala beauty clinic in Calle Prat de la Creu in Andorra la Vella.
Anyone who wishes to donate their hair can do so between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm on 19 October. Thanks to the cooperation of companies such as Caldea, Grandvalira, Shiori and Kevin Murphy, all the participants will receive a thank you gift and take part in a prize draw.

The minimum length of the hair to be donated is 30 cm and it doesn’t matter whether it’s straight, curly or dyed.
