The Andorran Swimming Federation and Andbank introduce the team set to take part in the World Championships in Budapest

The FAN has presented the schedule for the federation’s teams this summer, with a packed calendar of international competitions.

Escaldes-Engordany, 10 June 2022.

The Andorran Swimming Federation (FAN) presented the calendar for the upcoming competitions its different teams will take part in today in the auditorium of Andbank, the Federation’s chief sponsor.

Alfonso Maltrana, the Federation’s technical director and coach, began the event by listing the international competitions it has historically participated in. He then presented the schedule for the competitions this summer, a packed one in terms of the quantity and quality of the competitions.

The first competition will be the World Championships in Budapest, due to take place from 16 to 23 June. The swimmers will be Bernat and Tomàs Lomero, who will race in the 50m and 50m butterfly and 100m and 100m freestyle categories, respectively.

The Mediterranean Games in Oran will follow from 27 June to 7 July and involve four swimmers: Tomàs Lomero, who will take part in the 50m and 100m butterfly and 50m and 100m freestyle categories, with Patrick Pelegrina in the 50m and 100m breaststroke races, Nadia Tudó in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, and Mònica Ramírez in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

The European Young Olympic Festival will then take place in Banska Bistrika and the European Championships will be held in Rome. In these two competitions, we will have to await the scores of the swimmers to choose the two best or each.

Finally, Maltrana presented the projects that the FAN intends to carry out in the short term, including the work plan, which will seek to increase the number of hours and training sessions, the training sites, and the achievements envisaged in the plan. He also introduced the proposal for a learning plan to enable all the boys and girls in the country to enjoy the water and give them the chance to develop their talent.

“It’s important for us to make a commitment to schools and clubs so that the plan can be completed in the best possible way,” remarked Maltrana. He also commented that “the plan that we’re preparing is designed to enable more swimmers to emerge and expand our youth teams”.

On behalf of Andbank, Josep Maria Cabanes addressed a few words to the swimmers, telling them that “it makes us proud that a country like Andorra can take so many swimmers to competitions of this calibre”. Cabanes also congratulated the Federation for “the work it’s carrying out with the swimmers, who are achieving great goals based on hard work and perseverance”.

Joan Clotet, the President of the FAN, also congratulated the swimmers; “the whole team and the board are doing great work and making an effort to prepare for these international competitions”. As for the swimmers, Clotet added that “Bernat will begin the competitions in great shape, as will Tomàs, and we’ll definitely be supporting them so that they achieve their goals”.
