Escaldes-Engordany, 18 June 2018. Today in the Head Office of Andbank, which sponsors the Andorran team, the Andorran Olympic Committee (AOC) presented this strip that Andorra will wear to the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, which will be held from 22 June to 1 July.
The event was attended by Josep Maria Cabanes of Andbank, the president of the AOC, Jaume Martí, and the head of mission, Jordi Orteu.
Josep M. Cabanes stressed that “For Andbank it is a pleasure to continue backing these events and encouraging young sportspeople, and for that reason we wish to give them the greatest possible support.”
Jordi Orteu confirmed that Sandra Herver will not be fit for these games because of the injury she suffered at the weekend. Also, Joan Tomàs will not be taking part in the shooting final as he did not get the expected results. So, the list will comprise 31 sportspeople plus the coaches for each speciality.
Orteu also said, “While it’s hard for us to get medals in the Games of the Small States of Europe, it’ll be much more here. We’ve never won any. The level in all the sports is going to be very high, and being in the top ten or top eight would be fantastic even without any medals.” This news came during the official presentation of the strips that the team will use during the event. The deputy director of Andbank, Josep Maria Cabanes, pointed out that “We are about to start and for the bank it’s a pleasure to support these events, to continue encouraging the young sportspeople who, as we have seen in the past, are giving us great satisfaction.”
Jaume Martí, president of the Committee Andorran Olympic, also pointed out that it is a very high level event. “The challenge of the Games is very high because there are big countries like Spain, France, Italy and Turkey.” “We want to thank the athletes for their hard work because it won’t be like an Olympic Games, but it will be very complicated,” he explained.
Andorra will take part in athletics, men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, golf, judo, swimming, pétanque, taekwondo, tennis, shooting and sailing.
