La Purito Andorra, the cycle tourism race organised by Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez and scheduled for 13th September, has been cancelled due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.

The Ministry of Health’s new regulations have limited the number of participants in outdoor sporting events to 500. At the event held at Andbank’s head offices, Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez explained that “we had to reduce the number of participants from the initial 3,000 to 1,800, and now the new regulations stipulate that we can have a maximum of 500 riders. It doesn’t seem fair to me to have to decide who takes part and who doesn’t, so we’ve decided to cancel it”.

According to Josep M. Cabanes, deputy General Manager of Domestic Banking at Andbank, “at the moment we must follow the guidelines set by the Government so as to maximise the prevention of any outbreaks in autumn”, and he added that “we’ll be back next year stronger than ever”. Purito also stressed that “we continue to thank all the participants for the support they’ve constantly given us and we look forward to seeing them all in 2021. We’re already working on ensuring that we all meet on the starting line of the sixth La Purito Andorra next year”.

The participants will have two options: to recover the full registration fee or continue to participate in La Purito 2020 and receive the rider’s pack (with a jersey and various gifts), take part in a raffle and obtain a 20% discount on La Purito 2021.

Regarded as one of the toughest races in Europe, La Purito Andorra, sponsored by Andbank, has become a flagship event in the calendar of all cycling lovers. This would have been the sixth race and it was fully compliant with the COVID-19 protocol, with the aim of ensuring the safety of all the participants.
