Yesterday Andbank held its first #tutambesumes charity gala, a fund-raising event to fight childhood cancer that brought together 400 attendees in Andorra la Vella representing the institutions, society and business fabric of Andorra.

The gala, co-organised by the Leo Messi Foundation, was presented by the popular journalist Ramon Pellicer, an anchor of the weekend news on TV3, and featured a performance by international soprano Ainhoa Arteta, who has sung at iconic venues such as the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in New York, Covent Garden in London and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.

The gala menu was designed by chefs Marc Mora, Carles Flinch, Ramon Sasplugas, Christian Zanchetta, Clàudia Coma, Jordi Guerrero, Pep Ramos and Carolina Marticella and the dinner included speeches by Dr Manel del Castillo, Chief Executive Officer of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona, and Andbank CEO Ricard Tubau.

In the words of Tubau, “with this first charity gala we wish to bolster our work to raise money for treatment and oncological research, but also to sensitise Andorran society with regard to cancer, which is one of the core elements of our corporate responsibility strategy”.

Andbank has contributed to the research and treatment of this disease with a number of initiatives in recent years. For example, the entity is a founding partner of the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona promoted by the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, which is seeking to become one of the largest paediatric oncology centres in Europe, with the capacity to treat 400 patients each year by availing of the latest breakthroughs in the fight against cancer.

Andbank also partners with the VHIO (Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology), a leading biomedical research centre, Cris contra el cáncer, the private and independent organisation that fights cancer and promotes and funds research projects to treat and cure the disease, the Fero foundation, devoted to translational oncological research, and Assandca, an Andorra-based foundation that aims to inform the general public in the principality and raise awareness about the need to prevent cancer and bring forward its early detection so as to reduce incidence rates and mortality in the country.
